CI In Action: Support for Permian Veteran in Financial Crisis

Getting to know a veteran is sometimes the best way to find an outlet to support them. This was the case for John Domer* who, on the brink of financial crisis, reached out to Permian Warrior Partnership (PWP) for assistance.

John is an Army veteran who served from 1992-1995. Like many people, John felt his head was underwater with the stress of bills and appointments. At a recent doctor’s appointment, John found out he had cirrhosis of the liver. Due to his condition, John had a string of mandatory doctor’s appointments, resulting in losing his job. He explored some options known to him, but they were unable to assist. Months behind on his mortgage and bills, John contacted PWP to see if they could throw him a lifeline.

After discussing his options with Case Coordinator Breanna Durner, John mentioned that he had worked in the oilfield for most of his professional life. Breanna informed John that if he worked in the oilfield for a minimum amount of time in the Permian Basin, he could qualify for Oilfield Helping Hands. Breanna researched the requirements, and it turns out John met the criteria to receive funding. After Breanna gave John the online application, he filled out all of his information and was approved for financial assistance.

Oilfield Helping Hands provided John with a check for the amount he needed to catch up on his bills. While waiting on the application’s decision, John also successfully obtained new employment. Thanks to the help of PWP and supporting organizations, John’s home life will have more stability so he can focus on his health.
