Housing Support Provided for Hardworking Permian Veteran

Updated: May 3, 2023

Falling behind on finances is a slippery slope that can easily lead to homelessness. Many veterans across the country live paycheck-to-paycheck. Bill Greenbier*, post-9/11 Marine veteran, found himself in this situation when he reached out to Permian Warrior Partnership (PWP) for a helping hand.

Bill had recently moved to the Midland area for work as a plumber but was not making enough to pay rent in one lump sum. He managed to work out a payment plan with his rental company to pay throughout the month. However, they recently told him he can no longer do this and must pay in full at the beginning of the month. This forced him to get behind on rent, all the while working full-time, concerned he could lose his home. This was when Bill called PWP to see if any assistance programs could provide him with support.

After speaking with Bill, PWP Case Coordinator Breanna Durner did some research and referred him to a few agencies that he may qualify for. Unfortunately, the agencies were unable to help. Breanna continued searching and referred Bill to other agencies, including a PWP contact at the Permian Basin Mission Center (PBMC). Bill scheduled an interview with PBMC, who said they were able to help, but it would take some time. Many would feel defeated at this moment, but Bill did not give up hope. Fortunately, he was able to work some overtime to supplement the money PBMC provided him for a portion of his rent.

Thanks to Case Coordinator Durner, Bill was able to find a program to supplement his income to catch up on his rent and secure his housing. PWP is proud to support hardworking veterans like Bill to fill in the gaps in their needs.
